Messy in Devon?
Messy Church is fast becoming the most popular model of church for families with young children nationally, and is one of the most prolific forms of ‘fresh expressions’ of church that are emerging. There are now over 500 Messy Church initiatives registered on the online site.
Here in Devon, creative initiatives that are seeking to help unchurched families connect with the Gospel are popping up everywhere and so we want to respond by offering support, some training and an opportunity to reflect on the deeper issues relating to ‘messy style’ events. This will also be a fabulous opportunity to meet with others across the county doing a similar outreach and share good practice and explore common questions.
On 25th June 2011 we had a great gathering day for over 70 practitioners and would be practitioners. Since then Katherine has been requested by a number of parishes, mission communities and ecumenical ventures to come and host an information evenings for those interested in setting up a Messy Church in their location.
The session includes:
- How did it start?
- Why is it messy?
- What is Messy Church?
- What are the Aims of Messy Church?
- What does a typical Messy Church session look like?
- What Team do you need?
- How do we start?

We are considering introducing Messy Church at St Martin’s and St Mary’s, Chudleigh, and would be very interested in a training day. Unfortunately we were unable to make the day in July.
