Diocesan Youth Church Adviser

90% of young people have never had any contact with church. My role is to look at how we can connect with some of those young people and help them to explore Christian faith. When unchurched young people come to faith we then need to provide a form of church which is relevant and engaging for them. This needs to have people of different ages as part of it but not be church as we’ve always done it or even would like it.

When we’ve managed to pilot a model of this, my role is then to look at how we can encourage other expressions of youth church around the Diocese.

I’m also responsible for Soul Exeter. This is a monthly youth celebration, for youth from across Devon. It was started with the help of Soul Survivor and follows their values and principles. It is on the 2nd Saturday of each month and meets at 7pm at the Salvation Army, Friars Walk, Exeter. More info is on www.soulexeter.co.uk

As well as being Youth Church Adviser, in the other half of my life I’m Team Vicar in the Clyst Mission Community around Exeter Airport. I’m also married to the wonderful Liz and we have two lovely boys, Josh and Toby.
